Details & Itinerary

Whether you’re looking to lead members of your club, you’re an outdoor instructor looking to expand your qualifications or you just want to be able to confidently look after friends on the sea; Learn, refresh and develop the skills you need to pass the BC Advanced Sea Kayak Leader award with this in-depth 2 day British Canoeing endorsed training course.

What we will cover:

As an Advanced Sea Kayak Leader, you will need to have the skills to confidently lead a group of paddlers in advanced sea conditions and be equipped to deal with any mishaps that may happen along the way. On this intensive 2 days course, we will cover as much as possible, from trip planning to rescue scenarios, with particular emphasis on any specific areas you feel you need to develop giving you lots of tools and ideas to take away and develop before your assessment.

Part of the “low visibility” training is usually done at night, so please come prepared to paddle into the evening on day 1.

Previous experience required?

There are no pre-requisites for the BC Advanced Sea Kayak Leader Training, however, on our paddling levels, this course is a Level 5 and you should be paddling at or around this level.

This course does NOT include the Open Water Navigation and Tidal Planning course needed for assessment. We currently do not provide the Open Water Navigation and Tidal Planning course but if you get in touch here we may be able to organise something.

What you should bring:

Want to know why we’re operating this way?

We have many years of experience in the kayaking world and we have all been frustrated when we book a course and make plans around it, only to be told shortly before that the course will not be running due to low participant numbers.

We want to be as customer-focused as possible. We have committed to running all courses even if only one person has booked.

Yes, this does mean we are operating at a loss in these instances, but we think you’ll be so impressed with the service we offer that you will be returning and bringing friends with you in the future!

And it’s a day out at sea doing something that we are passionate about, so we all win!
