Sea Kayak Academy combines thoughtful coaching, real Pembrokeshire conditions and a permanent coastal learning base to help paddlers become more capable, independent and confident.
Why the Academy exists
Good paddling is more than a collection of skills.
Boat control matters. So do rescues, navigation and technical knowledge. But capable sea kayakers also learn to notice what is changing, understand what it means and make sound choices before a situation becomes difficult.
That is what connects everything we do. From somebody’s first proper day in a sea kayak to advanced leadership development, the aim is greater understanding, not simply getting through a syllabus.
The atmosphere is serious about learning without becoming intimidating. You can ask questions, admit uncertainty and develop at the pace the conditions and your experience genuinely allow.
How we coach
Learning that belongs to you after the course ends.
Every programme has clear aims, but no two groups, forecasts or coastlines are identical. Coaching responds to the real situation rather than forcing everybody through a script.

Technique is connected to the environment, the outcome you want and the decisions available to you.
Use real conditions well
Venues and activities are selected for the people, learning aims, weather and tides, not for spectacle.
Leave more independent
Good coaching should reduce your reliance on the coach by strengthening judgement, confidence and self-awareness.

The day begins somewhere built for learning.
The Academy has a permanent rural base rather than meeting customers beside a van at whichever beach happens to be convenient.
There is space to talk through the day, examine charts and forecasts, fit equipment properly and review what happened afterwards. The Chart Room classroom, Wheelhouse shared indoor space, equipment store and shop, drying and washing facilities, parking, toilets, guest Wi-Fi, optional camping and Holmus Cottage all support the wider experience.
It is also Ant and Libby’s home and long-term commitment to the Academy: a place designed to keep improving rather than a venue hired for the day.

The people behind the Academy
Personal coordination. The right coach for the work.
You should always know who is responsible for what. Ant leads the business and remains your office contact. On the water, the Academy appoints the coach or specialist whose experience and current Paddle UK remit fit the activity, group and expected environment.
Ant coordinates your experience
Enquiries, booking, course choice, payment, equipment needs, accommodation and practical arrangements are handled through the Academy office. That gives customers one clear point of contact and lets coaches concentrate on delivery.
Qualified coaches lead on the water
The coaching team is selected around the work rather than one personality being promised for every course. Coaches operate within their qualification remit, and the day is planned for the people and conditions in front of them.
Pembrokeshire is the classroom
One coastline. An extraordinary range of useful choices.
Sheltered water, cliffs, islands, surf, tidal movement and exposed headlands sit within reach of the Academy. That range lets a coach select the environment that best serves the learning rather than chasing the largest conditions available.
