Private Sea Kayak Coaching & Guided Days

Personal coaching, tailored to your experience, your goals, and the conditions on the day.

Whether you’re looking to build confidence, develop specific skills, prepare for an award, or simply spend focused time on the water, private coaching offers a flexible and highly effective way to progress.

Private coaching gives you the space to focus entirely on your own paddling — your pace, your confidence, and what you want to get from the day.

The day is shaped around you: your level, your pace, your confidence, and what you want to get from the time on the water.

For some, that means accelerating progress quickly. For others, it’s about creating space to reset, rebuild confidence, or simply enjoy a more personal experience.

Who it’s for

Private coaching works particularly well for:

  • paddlers wanting focused one-to-one support
  • friends or partners learning together
  • paddlers preparing for Sea Kayak Leader or Advanced Sea Kayak Leader pathways
  • those returning to the water after time away
  • paddlers wanting a journey-style day with coaching built in
  • anyone who prefers a quieter, more personalised learning environment

Private bookings can be arranged for individuals, pairs, or small groups.

What we can work on

Every private day is different, but coaching can include:

  • boat handling and efficiency
  • edging, turning and support strokes
  • working in wind, swell and moving water
  • rock hopping and close-to-feature paddling
  • decision making and confidence in conditions
  • leadership and group awareness
  • safety, awareness, and incident prevention

Some days are highly skills-focused. Others are built around a journey, with coaching woven naturally through the day.

How the day works

Private coaching usually starts from the Sea Kayak Academy base.

From there, the day is shaped around the conditions, your aims, and the best locations available on the coast.

We choose where to paddle on the day to make sure you get the most out of it — whether that’s sheltered water for skill development or more dynamic environments for progression.

Coaching and guiding

Private days can lean more towards coaching or guiding depending on what you want.

  • Coaching-focused days build skills, understanding, and confidence
  • Guided-style days explore the coastline while developing your paddling along the way

In practice, most days sit somewhere in between — combining progression with time spent properly enjoying being on the sea.

The Academy environment

Private coaching at the Academy is built around real paddling on a real coastline.

You’re not working within a fixed venue or a set formula. Instead, we use the full Pembrokeshire coast to create the right environment for the day.

You’ll also have access to:

  • a full range of sea kayaking kit if needed
  • the Academy base and facilities
  • our drying room, known as the Magic Box
  • optional on-site camping

Accommodation in the cottage may also be available alongside coaching, depending on dates.

This allows us to match the environment to you — rather than fitting you into a fixed venue or format.

Tailored to your group and goals

Private coaching is priced according to group size and format.

Because every booking is slightly different — from one-day one-to-one sessions through to multi-day coaching blocks — we’ll recommend the most suitable option once we understand what you’re looking for.

“Exactly what I needed — a day completely tailored to my paddling. I came away with far more confidence and a much clearer understanding of what to work on next.”
