PADDLE UK ADVANCED LEADERSHIP TRAINING
Advanced Sea Kayak Leader (tidal) Training
Develop calm leadership, proportionate decisions and dependable group management when the coastline, conditions and consequences become more demanding.

WHO THIS IS FOR
Already leading—ready to work with less margin
This is not an introduction to leadership. It is for experienced paddlers who already lead groups in tidal water and want to develop the judgement required in exposed, complex and changing coastal environments.
If core Sea Kayak Leader skills are still being consolidated, Sea Kayak Leader training or focused private coaching will usually be the stronger next step.
WHAT YOU WILL DEVELOP
Leadership when the environment demands more
The exact emphasis adapts to the group, forecast and coastline. Training remains practical, conditions-led and within the appointed provider's current Paddle UK qualification remit.
Complex planning
Build usable plans around tides, weather, exposure, group capability and meaningful alternatives.
Dynamic decisions
Recognise change early and make proportionate choices while margins reduce.
Group strategy
Use position, communication and movement systems that support the whole group.
Incident management
Connect rescues, towing, leadership and evacuation thinking in demanding scenarios.
Leadership under pressure
Stay clear, useful and composed when the plan or conditions become complicated.
Reflective judgement
Explain your choices, receive direct feedback and identify the right consolidation work.
COURSE FORMAT
Five focused days in real coastal context
Typically 09:00–17:00, adapted where useful for the training aims.
Locations are chosen for conditions, learning value and provider remit.
Small enough for observation, challenge and meaningful feedback.
Bring your own familiar equipment or use Academy kit if required.
Low-visibility work
Where useful and appropriate, day one may include later low-visibility navigation work. Exact timings are confirmed with participants.
TRAINING, NOT ASSESSMENT
Development comes before the outcome
This course develops advanced leadership performance. Formal Advanced Sea Kayak Leader assessment is a separate Paddle UK process and is not included.
Training attendance does not guarantee assessment readiness. The Offshore Navigation and Tidal Planning course and all current Paddle UK prerequisites must be completed separately before assessment.
