About Us

All about Sea Kayak Academy,

We are a small team of kayakers who are dedicated to providing quality kayaking courses. Focusing on the individual development of each and every paddler we meet.

We aim to help you become the safest most confident paddler you can be.

Whilst qualifications are great for measuring our abilities we intend to focus on making better paddlers first.

Who are we? Where did we come from?

Ian Jennings - Chief Sea Kayak Coach

Ian Jennings

  • Sea Kayak Coach (Advanced Water) – British Canoeing
  • White Water Coach – British Canoeing

Ian had his first kayaking experience at the age of 9 on a family holiday to Centre Parcs. He enjoyed the experience so much that he then joined a local canoe club.

In his early twenties during a paddle at a local activity centre. Ian had a light bulb moment whilst conversing with one of the activity staff “…you mean you can do this stuff and get paid for it?!?!”. He immediately joined as a volunteer, quickly gaining many outdoor qualifications. Later Ian joined the centre as a member of staff the following season.

Since then Ian’s love for kayaking and the sea has drawn him to spend most of his time out on the water guiding, leading, coaching or just paddling for himself.

Ian has worked all over the UK, New Zealand and Switzerland but feels truly at home whilst paddling the Pembrokeshire coast. With the exception of a few wayward teenage years; Ian has over 25 years of kayaking experience.

Amy Jennings - Sea Kayak Coach

Amy Jennings

  • Sea Kayak Coach – British Canoeing
  • First Aid

At the age of 21, Amy knew nothing about paddle sport and couldn’t tell you the difference between a kayak and a canoe. This however didn’t stop her from acquiring a job at a local canoe and kayak shop. In this role, her sales experience and friendly persona far outshone her lack of product knowledge.

Once working for the shop Amy immediately began to develop her product knowledge in the most exciting way possible – out on the water.

Since then Amy has kayaked all over the world guiding, leading and coaching groups as far as New Zealand and Switzerland.
